About Us
We aim to provide a friendly, fun, helpful, encouraging and respectful environment for riders and their families.
Amberley Pony Club is based just out of Amberley township. Rallies are usually held on the 2nd & 4th Sundays of the month at the beautiful Lindfield property (a working farm so no dogs) on Reserve Road. Rally dates are published on our Facebook page. New members are welcome - please let us know you are coming!
At the beginning of each rally we set up equipment needed for the day. Riders are encouraged to do as much as they can to get their horse ready to be ridden. Gear is checked before the children start on any lessons, this check consists of checking that tack has been put on correctly and is safe to ride with also that the horse has been groomed and the hooves oiled. The child is also checked that they are wearing clothing suitable and safe to ride in, i.e. the helmet tagged and fitting properly.
Lessons are of a varied type, the children are split into ability and lessons are geared to improve their riding and knowledge. We have lead rein ponies up to 17hh horses.
Dressage, show jumping and cross-country is taught and games are often played. The games are great fun for the kids and teaches them how to handle their horse with out them realising that they are learning! There ae NZPCA certificates and achievement badges that the riders work towards covering riding and horse care.
The current rally uniform consists of:
- A yellow top / fleece
- Any colour jodhpurs, but beige or cream is correct.
- Jodhpur boots (gumboots are not permitted.)
- A riding helmet (must be able to be a red tagged)
- An approved body protector (must be worn for xcountry but recommended for all jumping)
- Pony club badge - purchased through the club.
The rally uniform is not essential but does help the children feel they involved together.
Our main fundraisers are our One Day Event in May, and Showjumping competition after Amberley A&P show. These events are all hands on deck but it does mean we don’t do a lot of fund raising through the rest of the year.
All families are expected to attend the annual general meeting (held in March), committee meetings are held at regular intervals throughout the year
Amberley Pony Club enters into many competitions throughout the year and always welcomes members to take part. We do our best to include everyone. To be eligible the rider and mount must have attended a minimum of five rallies in the previous 12 months, three of which were on the mount entered and parent or care giver must have attended four meetings in the previous 12 months.
